Clear the Decks

Did someone say that Tuesday was the first day of spring? Does it feel like it wherever you are? I'm not sure it does exactly here, either. But there are signs of life. Crocuses and daffodils (which, for the record, pop up quite early over here, as the ground rarely freezes) dotting muddy patches of grass here and there. A high and bright sun rising up over the rooftops and and not fading into dusk until just around 7pm. We're getting there, day by day, and before you know it, we'll all be losing our minds over ramps and tender lettuces, and actually, I've already seen some white asparagus in the shops.

The energy is picking up, too, and even though the weather might still be acting contrary to our spring ahead instincts, we've got no choice but to pile on the layers and get out there, it's GO time! At least that's how it feels for me these days. I've been in a transition to a whole new operating model over the past three months, which at times has felt slow but in reality has actually been pretty aggressive. I moved to a new home, launched two new businesses, and am kicking off several big projects RIGHT NOW. I guess I don't really do slow, now that I think about it.

But today, I'm gonna phone it in a little bit. I was all geared up to deliver you a letter full of the latest wit and wisdom on functional mushrooms. For real. And there is a lot of it out there. A LOT, PEOPLE! While I have surely piqued your curiosity, I just had no room for 'shrooms in my schedule this week. (Don't worry, this bleeding-edge journalism will be coming your way soon.)

Instead, we're cleaning out the fridge of all the odds and ends that have been piling up, threatening to turn and taking up valuable space. And with all we've got going on, we need all the clear space we can get. So today I'm pulling together a bunch of still-tasty bits that don't really come together as a cohesive recipe, but are nourishing nonetheless.

Just put some hot sauce on it.
