#07: Girls, Girls, Girls

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU GUYS, BUT ONE OF MY GREAT JOYS IS READING ABOUT TELEVISION. ALMOST, ACTUALLY MORE THAN WATCHING THE SHOWS THEMSELVES.

And as you are probably already well plugged into, the ongoing discourse around Girls has made for some incredibly engaging cultural criticism over the past few years, and especially in the course of this final season. It took me awhile to warm up to the show, unsurprisingly, as both a Gen X-er and, at the time, a Brooklynite. But once I realized that trying to relate, to see any kind of reflection of myself, even the twenty-something version was beside the point, I got really stuck in and took things to heart. Sometimes I think it's maybe my misplaced maternal instinct to want to look out for these girls (and Adam, especially Adam), all the while seeing them for the ridiculous, exigent, annoying AF creatures they are. Fucking millennials, right? Anyway, enough of my own micro thinkpiece. Onto to good shit:

First and foremost, the most relatable piece, on the grown-up behind Girls, Jenni Konner.

Yet again, Jia Tolentino is all of us, as she finally realizes it's good goddam show despite avoiding it for years.

Might as well just get a little meta, and start rounding up the round-ups of thinkpieces. It's more efficient that way:
From Paste Magazine, in 2015
- Go ahead and re-watch the pilot, knowing what you know now
- Let's check in and see what Jenni Konner thinks of all the thinkpieces
- How about what Jenni and Lena think NOW about all the thinkpieces
- Fuck it, here's a list of 24 thinkpieces.
